Workshop with Veterans & Houston Ballet Academy

Houston, TX

Hosted by Houston Ballet Academy, this three-day workshop provided opportunity to develop the dance and improvisational movement components of the performance. Under the direction of choreographer Harrison Guy and guest creative advisor Lauren Anderson, Houston Ballet’s first Black principal dancer, twelve dancers from HBII rehearsed to music by Gabriela Ortiz, integrating choreography with improvisational movement by performance artist Shaun Leonardo. The workshop also included rehearsals with local veterans, led by Leonardo through a series of prompts that harness their personal memories of wartime.
